Department Outline

Welcome to our department, the hub of Korean social welfare!

The Department of Social Welfare at Chung-Ang University was established in 1963 with the educational philosophy and purpose of achieving a welfare society that guarantees human dignity, freedom, and equality. Our department also aims to nurture dedicated social workers with the ultimate goal of developing and enculturating Korean social welfare into their practice.

With a long history of more than 50 years, Chung-Ang University's Department of Social Welfare is a long-established faculty that has contributed greatly to the establishment of social welfare policies and the development of social welfare within Korea. Not only do we provide systematic education on the general understanding of social welfare, but we also dive into various interpersonal welfare services for children, adolescents, the elderly, families, as well as topics regarding national and social insurance.

Our Vision

Our vision is to:
- Dedicate ourselves to the exploration and establishment of Korean social welfare
- Contribute to the inculturation of social welfare in Korea and the development of the Korean welfare state
- Continuously propose Korean social welfare policies and practical alternatives to actively respond to new social risks
- Establish the foundation for ¡®East Asian Social Welfare Research¡¯ in line with the overall trend of internationalization and globalization in social welfare

Department of Social Welfare Educational Goals Based on a broad education within the faculty humanities and social sciences, the goal is to nurture professional experts within both the social welfare practice and research fields who can contribute and or address the development of social justice and the improvement of the quality of life. The ultimate goal is to develop experts who can address social justice issues in our society while understanding and approaching the various problems of life in modern society in a broad socio-economic context.
